Dues for Income Tax Reporting
Mr. Damon Batty, our Local UTU1252
Sec/Treasurer officer reports
that the reportable union dues paid for the year 2003 were $976.00
This is for your reportable IRS deductions as Union Dues.
Dear
Members,
I have taken longer than I should have
to address you,
but wanted to take a moment to say how excited I am to be a part
of the local 1252. Not only as a member but as an officer, as well.
As President, I am primarily here to run the meetings and oversee
the responsibilities of the other officers. However, if any member
has a concern or question, please feel free to contact me. It is likely
that I won't know the answer (smile), but will find it for you.
I encourage all of you to attend the
meetings whenever
possible, as we are all working towards a unified and informed local.
In the near future, we will be changing the meeting times to
accommodate those people who cannot make the morning meetings.
I look forward to seeing many of you there.
I welcome, and congratulate, our new
officers and extend
my thanks to them for all the hard work they have already done.
I look forward to working closely with each and every one of you.
Sincerely,
Weslie K. McRoberts
President, Local 1252

RETIREMENT
BILL -
July
27, 2001 To: All Concerned
From: James M. Brunkenhoefer
Much is going on
behind the scenes as the various interest groups line up
ahead of Monday evening’s vote on H.R. 1140. The various congressional
caucuses’ are currently examining their positions and will soon be issuing
what is commonly called a "Dear Colleague" letter to reflect their
support or
opposition to H.R. 1140. Non-congressional organizations such as your
union, the various railroads, taxpayer organizations, the Heritage Foundation,
etc. are hurriedly working up position papers to go to the various congressional
offices.
I can only once more reinforce
that it is imperative that calls continue into Congress.
I can assure you that those who are opposed to our position are very strong and
are working very hard. If you have called once, please call again and again and
again.
It is no longer necessary to contact the Iowa Republican Party. We have
accomplished
our goal there.

COLA Effective
January 1, 2001
Effective January 1, 2001, a
12-cent-per-hour cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) will be
applied to UTU members’ existing rates of pay, pursuant to Article II, Part C
of the
Award of Arbitration Board No. 559.
Yardmasters will also receive a pay adjustment, with the exact amount to be
determined
in accordance with existing agreements governing the application of COLAs.
Conductors Deadhead at 100%
The carrier has come up with a new twist regarding
conductors with
less than 5 years service. Their deadhead is being paid at their rate
progression rate (75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%). The UTU strongly
disagrees with this interpretation of the agreement and recommends
to each member with less than 5 years to state in the remarks
section of the time ticket: "Deadhead at 100% rate of pay"
OPERATING CRAFT UNIONS JOIN FORCES
ON REMOTE CONTROL
CLEVELAND (July 18) - In light of the Federal Railroad Administration's
upcoming technical conference with respect to remote control operation
of locomotives, the United Transportation Union (UTU)
and the
Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE)
have committed themselves
to work together in developing a joint position before the railroad
industry and the federal government.
To that end, they agreed today to jointly develop a proposal on
substantive provisions designed to ensure the safety of employees
represented by both unions, and to limit the use of remote control to
those operations currently existing.
The parties intend to share all available data, research, and other work
already done individually in developing a common position through consensus.
The BLE, North America's oldest labor organization, has 58,000 members
and is the certified bargaining representative for, among others, locomotive
engineers on U.S. Class I and Canadian railroads, Canadian rail traffic
controllers and, through its American Train Dispatchers Department,
U. S. train dispatchers.
The UTU represents 135,000 transportation employees, and is the certified
bargaining representative for, among others, conductors, trainmen,
switchmen, firemen, hostlers, hostler helpers and yardmasters on
U. S. Class I and Canadian railroads.
Both unions are headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio.
New Web Site:
Have you heard the news, our UTU Local 1252 has its own
Web Site.
The web site is all about you, and you and all of us together making
things better. Better working conditions, better understanding of the
working contracts and agreements, better communications between
all of us and a better life.
That sounds great, there's just one catch, if you don't
input, you won't
get much out of it. Communication is the KEY to all those "BETTERS"
mentioned above. Browse around, submit your questions, state your
opinions and share the wealth. This web site is all about you, without
you its just another web on the net. Make it your tool, make it work for us.
